Brooklyn Cat Café
The place to enjoy a great moment with your favorite furry friends.
Located in the heart of Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Cat Café offers you the chance to enjoy the company of these beautiful felines. Even though it is part of its name, this place does not offer any coffee - at least you could not buy any type of drink/snack for consumption last time I came here.
According to their website, they are the only non-profit cat cafe in the city. This is a cat adoption center and social space run by the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition. They offer a big space where you can hang out, play and pet almost all the cats - the ones wearing a collar could get a little hipper, so be careful.
I’ve been in this place several times, and I can tell they are trying to make it look better and offer more to customers. When you get there, you’ll be welcome in the reception area where you need to sign a waiver and listen to general instructions. After that, you are allowed to go inside the area where the cats are. This one is divided into two: one area with the main reception, a bar, and stools with some merchandise and sofas and chairs to hang out. The second area is all the way to the back, and it’s a living room with a lot of toys. They seem to have some snacks and a small fridge in the reception area, but I am not sure if these are for customers to buy or for their employees.
The good things…
Super friendly staff.
They always have cats on the premises, so you can enjoy them every day of the week.
You can adopt any of the cats as long as you’re good with their requirements - and it is a long list. They really want to be sure the cat will be in good hands.
You can buy some treats - usually ¢50 - for the cats.
The not-so-good things…
There’s no coffee - Yes, I know. Even though it is part of the name, they do not sell any coffee there.
Keep track of the time, you might end up paying $18 or more just to play with cats.
They are trying their best to offer a safe place for cats in need, but unfortunately, they are missing the “café” part of their name. It would be nice if you could have a nice cup of coffee and maybe some snacks while also enjoying the company of cats. I am not sure the reason why they are not doing it at the moment, but hopefully, they will be able to change soon.
If you are visiting the city and miss your kitty, then this is the place to visit. It’s only two blocks away from the R train - Court Station, which makes it very accessible.
